For the tribals land is not only a means of livelihood but also something that gives them their identity, something that they cannot just buy or sell because it is like alienating themselves from their family, their kith and kin. The struggle to preserve land has generated a number of struggles. At the helm of each struggle, there is a hero. In part 3, we look at some of these heroes.

Tribals Of Chhotanagpur - 5: Tribal Cosmology

Duration : 19:39     Year : 1993     Code No. 3247

Tribals form a sacred society. The whole of their life and the entire gamut of their experience bears a religious stamp. The Chhotanagpur Tribals have definite views about the creation of the world and the development of the human species. What one sees within this cosmological view is that they have tried to live an integrated, holistic life rather than a fragmented, dualistic existence as we lead in modern society.
