The Mysterious Black Holes

Duration : 10:42     Year : 1998     Code No. 3577

Scientists observe many phenomena that cannot be explained by ordinary stellar objects. Therefore the presence of something in the universe that cannot be seen was conjectured. It was suggested that stars could collapse to such an extent that their mass becomes so high and gravity so great that nothing can escape from them. Even light would be trapped by the intense gravity of this object. These were called black holes. Do they really exist? This programme probes the figures of Black Holes and examines its origin.

Don't Miss The Solar Wonder

Duration : 25:00     Year : 1995     Code No. 3387

On 24th October 1995, a total solar eclipse was visible in the northern part of India. Such an eclipse repeats itself over a particular place only once in about 360 years. Solar eclipses are commonly considered by many cultures as the wrath of nature rather than a rare scientific phenomenon. This programme tries to explain the science behind the solar eclipse.

Antar Jyotir, Bahir Jyotir

Duration : 27:00     Year : 1995     Code No. 3397

This is yet another programme on the solar eclipse of 1995. Science and rational thinking have come a long way in unravelling the mystery of nature. Until a few years ago, a total solar eclipse was feared as a catastrophe, as something inauspicious. But the one on the 24th of October 1995 was a different story altogether. Passing over thickly populated regions of India, it was a rare opportunity for scientists as well as common people to witness and understand the phenomenon.

All Things Bright And Beautiful: Comets

Duration : 21:08     Year : 1996     Code No. 3453

During February to April 1997, Comet Hale Bopp was visible from all over the country with the naked eye. It is expected to be one of the brightest comets. This programme highlights some interesting features of a comet including its life cycle, so that people may enjoy the spectacle. An attempt has also been made to clear comets from the stigma of being bad omen. They are just like any other heavenly bodies like our sun and moon.
